Columbia man dies after SUV plummets off bridge into Pearl River

16777697-smallCOLUMBIA, Mississippi (AP) — A south Mississippi man his died after he lost control of his sport utility vehicle and it plunged into the Pearl River.

Authorities say 49-year-old Vencient Robinson of Columbia was headed east on Highway 98 in Marion County.

Witnesses say he began to drive erratically and hit two guardrails before his vehicle plummeted into the water Monday morning.

Emergency crews pulled the vehicle out of the river.

The accident remains under investigation.
