McComb officials appalled by people dumping deer carcasses off bridges

deer.carcass.magMCCOMB, Mississippi (AP) — Pike County supervisors say they’re appalled that people are dumping deer carcasses off bridges and along roadsides.

Sheriff Mark Shepherd says it’s hard to catch people doing that. He says most hunters are respectable but some are not.

The Enterprise-Journal reports that on Wednesday, the supervisors looked over photos taken by a reader at the Tangipahoa River bridge in Chatawa. They showed blood-stained cement, plus plastic bags and deer carcasses hanging off railings and wedged among bridge supports.

The $1.2 million bridge was completed last year and designed with a weathered, historic look to go with the scenic Chatawa surroundings.

Solid waste enforcement officer Richard Coghlan says people think it’s OK to dump carcasses in creeks, but they’re the worst place for such dumping.
