3 children die in early-morning house fire in Byhalia, woman escapes

16652192-smallBYHALIA, Mississippi (AP) — Three children have died in a house fire Saturday in rural north Mississippi.

Byhalia Fire Chief Leland Reed says a woman escaped the fire which was reported about 2 a.m.

Reed says an 8-month-old girl, a 1-year-old boy and a 2-year-old boy were trapped inside the house by the fire. He says the house was fully engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived.

Reed says the names of the children have not been released.

He says the cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Byhalia is located about 33 miles southeast of Memphis along U.S. Highway 78.
