Pike supervisors get $1M for pellet mill

Pellet_Mill_PlantMCCOMB, Miss. (AP) – Pike County is getting $1 million from the state of Mississippi to install water and sewer services to the site of a pellet mill on U.S. Highway 51.

The money came from the Mississippi Development Authority

The Enterprise-Journal reports (http://bit.ly/1AoSLCd ) that the planned $100 million Pike BioEnergy plant will employ 47 people.

It will convert pine pulpwood into wood chips to ship to Great Britain, where Drax BioMass International will use them to replace coal in power plants. Drax also recently built the Amite BioEnergy pellet mill in Gloster.

Pike BioEnergy has an option to buy 158 acres of county-owned land for $2.17 million, of which supervisors will set aside $750,000 for site work.
