2 Brookhaven High senior football players die in traffic accident

Car-crash-wreck-accident-police-tapeBROOKHAVEN, Mississippi (AP) — Two Brookhaven High School players have died in a traffic accident on a city street.

Deputy Lincoln County Corner Ricky Alford tells The Daily Leader Shaquan Richardson and Javonta Dickey, both 18, were killed in the accident around 9:45 p.m. Tuesday.

Alford says Richardson was pronounced dead on the scene, and Dickey died later at Kings Daughters Medical Center. They were high school seniors. They had been at a softball game.

Police Chief Bobby Bell says truck in which the two players were riding was struck by another vehicle. The driver of the other vehicle was treated and released from the hospital.

Bell says the accident is under investigation.

Brookhaven football Coach Tommy Clopton says there is no determination as to Friday’s homecoming game against South Jones High School.
