WLOX-TV reports that 26-year-old Stephen Hagin and his girlfriend, 23-year-old Amber Slocum, were charged early Saturday.

Harrison County Sheriff’s Maj. Ron Pullen says Hagin is charged with capital murder and Slocum is charged with accessory after the fact.

Officials say they suspect the victim was reported missing June 6, but are waiting to make a positive identification before releasing the name.

Authorities say remains are badly decomposed, so dental records are being used in identification. Pullen says they don’t expect results until Wednesday.

The suspected victim had been a state prison inmate, so authorities are using Mississippi Department of Corrections records in identification.
