USM student from Jackson County charged in fraternity stabbing

HATTIESBURG, Mississippi (AP) — Authorities say a University of Southern Mississippi student has been released from a Hattiesburg hospital after being stabbed at the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity house Sunday.

Detective Captain Rusty Keyes says university police arrested fraternity member Elijah Dollar after responding to a fight call at 1:30 a.m. on Sunday. Dollar, who is from Jackson County, is charged with aggravated assault.

Keyes says the stabbing occurred during an argument that escalated into a fight. The victim has not been identified.

Dean of Students Eddie Holloway says Dollar’s fraternity membership has been suspended.

Holloway says the incident is under investigation.

Keyes says one the campus police’s investigation is completed it will be turned over Holloway and the Forrest County District Attorney’s office.
