BILOXI, Mississippi (AP) — Police in Biloxi, Miss., say the police chief of Morgan City, La., shot himself and died in a casino hotel. Biloxi police Sgt. Chris De Back said Saturday that investigators don’t know whether it was suicide or an accident.

De Back says officers found Chief Travis Crouch’s body when they answered a report of a shooting late Friday in a room at the Beau Rivage.

Morgan City Assistant Chief Michael Banks says the 46-year-old police chief was on leisure time in Biloxi. He told a news conference Saturday that Crouch had begun innovative and positive changes in the department.

The Daily Review of Morgan City reports that Crouch began his career with the Morgan City Police Department in 1991. He was appointed chief on Feb. 26, 2013.
