JACKSON, Mississippi (AP) — The Mississippi Highway Patrol worked two fatal accidents over the Thanksgiving holidays and investigated a total of 167 collisions that injured 36 people.

Mississippi Highway Patrol spokesman Johnny Poulus says troopers worked two fatalities during the same period last year, but there was slight decrease in overall accidents and injuries from Thanksgiving 2012.

Poulus says one fatality happened Saturday in Wilkinson County when 26-year-old Tarvis A. Bolden lost control of his vehicle and ran off the road.

The other fatality was 16-year-old Joseph R. Grayson, who died from injuries sustained Sunday when his truck ran off the road in Jones County.

Both accidents are under investigation

Troopers wrote 6,682 citations, including 118 DUIs over the holiday period, from Wednesday evening until midnight Sunday.
