Ole Miss student, critically injured in beating in Austin prior to Texas football game, returns home to continue recovery

An Ole Miss student, who was critically injured Sept. 14 in a beating while he was in Austin, Texas, for the Rebels football game, has returned home to Bloomington, Ind., to continue his recovery, according to a report in the Austin American-Statesman.

Carson Otter, 21, was placed in a medically-induced coma after the incident and underwent brain surgery. He was hospitalized 6 days before he was released to a rehabilitation center. He is back home to continue his recovery.

In the report, Otter’s mother tells of the heroics of bystanders that helped save her eldest son’s life.

The incident garnered national attention and an outpouring of support and fundraising from social media to the Ole Miss Alumni Association.
