Thompson invites the Greater Grove Street Missionary Baptist Church to perform during the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation’s Annual Legislative Conference Gospel Extravaganza in Washington

BOLTON, MISSISSIPPI – United States Representative, Bennie G. Thompson (MS-02) announced that he has invited the Greater Grove Street Missionary Baptist Church Choir of Vicksburg, Mississippi to perform with choirs from across the country, during the Gospel Extravaganza which is being held during the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation’s 43rd Annual Legislative Conference on September 19, 2013, at 8:00p.m.

 “I am pleased to have the Greater Grove Street Missionary Baptist Church Choir join me for this year’s Gospel Extravaganza. I am always excited to showcase the talent we have in the Second Congressional District, and this year is no exception”, said Congressman Thompson.

The Greater Grove Street M.B. Choir has been featured as background for gospel artists such as Paul Porter and Marva McKinley of the Mississippi Mass Choir.  The Choir has been featured on television in Andrew Zimmerman’s “Appetite for Life” and “The Ernie Miles Show.”  Additionally, the Choir was featured in a documentary for Southern Heritage for Mississippi. Grove Street Missionary Baptist Church was organized in 1908 on the lower west end of Grove Street in Vicksburg, Mississippi.  Rev. Dr. Casey Fisher currently serves as the church’s pastor.
