Gun rally approved for Alcorn courthouse grounds

CORINTH – (AP) A group planning a rally in support of gun ownership rights has been granted permission to use the Alcorn County Courthouse grounds for the event.

The county Board of Supervisors approved the request this past week but stipulated that no firearms can be brought onto court square.

Organizers Bobby McDaniel and Jay Anthony briefed supervisors on plans for Firearm Freedom Day, which is set for July 6.

Anthony, a member of the Alcorn County Tea Party Patriots, told The Daily Corinthian that he expects hundreds of people to attend the rally, which will run from 9 a.m.-4 p.m.

“We can’t think of a better month than July to celebrate the Constitution,” he said.

Anthony described the event as nonpartisan.

Scheduled speakers include Henry Ross, a retired Navy commander; Danny Bedwell, chairman of the Mississippi Libertarian Party; the Rev. Clayton

“Blackhawk” Self, a Tea Party activist; and local officials.

Plans for the event also include music, self-defense demonstrations, food booths and activities for children.
