Thompson to host CMS Regional Director for district discussion on Affordable Care

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressman Bennie G. Thompson (MS-02) announced that he will host Dr. Renard Murray, Regional Administrator for the CMS Atlanta Regional Office, on July 2 2013, in Mississippi. Dr. Murray will discuss Affordable Care exchange implementation and how it will affect Mississippi hospital administrators, physicians, businesses, and other stakeholders.

“I want Mississippi to succeed, and I am deeply committed to enhancing the healthcare system of our state. There are over half a million uninsured citizens in our state.  I want Mississippi to have every advantage in developing an effective, accessible healthcare system. I am tired of statistics that have Mississippi coming in last when it comes to healthcare. I intend to change the picture of health in our state, and this discussion is another step in that direction,” said Thompson.

Beginning October 1 2013, consumers in all states will be able to choose new, affordable health insurance coverage through a new Health Insurance Marketplace through the Affordable Care Act. Mississippi will participate in a Federally- facilitated Marketplace.
