JACKSON – (AP) Jackson police have charged 20-year-old Octavious Morrison with capital murder in the death of his pregnant girlfriend. He is being held without bond.

Police say 17-year-old Octavia Love was seven months pregnant and the unborn fetus did not survive.

Detectives said Love was in a back bedroom at a residence in the 1500 block of Wood Glen Drive, Saturday afternoon, June 8, with her Morrison when the rifle was discharged.

Hinds County Coroner Sharon Grisham-Stewart said a preliminary exam revealed the teen died from a single gunshot wound to the back of the head.

When Morrison was first questioned by police, Officer Colendula Green, of the Jackson Police Department said Morrison said Love was playing with a rifle when it went off and shot herself.

Police are not sure if the couple had a violent past, but Morrison has prior arrests.

“A few misdemeanors that was in our systems. I will be looking at that further as well, as well as the detectives will be investigating that also,” Green told WLBT.

On her Facebook page, Love posted that she and Morrison were engaged.

Jackson Police said Morrison posed on his Facebook page with the rifle that killed Love. He is also pictured with another rifle and handgun, WLBT reported.
