Stork’s body was found in a grassy area near River Bend Apartments in Gautier on Saturday, June 8.

Police Capt. Jerry Cooksey said Stork was walking between two apartment building when he was struck by a blue car. Stork was not reported to be running from Kersey.

“Witnesses said he was just standing out there,” Cooksey said.

Gautier Municipal Court Judge Jason Thornton set Kersey’s bond at $100,000.

Det. Jonathan Whitfield said an autopsy and toxicology results on Stork are pending.

Cooksey said Kersey did not appear to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol. And she has given no motive for the attack.

Outside the courtroom, Kersey’s mother, Andrea Kersey, said she was “devastated” at what has transpired.

“She’s all I’ve got,” Andrea Kersey said of her daughter. “Her and my grandbaby.”

Kersey and Stork had been married for two months at the time of his death and they have a 1-month-old daughter together.

Andrea Kersey said her daughter’s relationship with Stork had been an abusive one and that she only knew of their marriage through friends who had seen it on Facebook.

Whitfield said police are aware of a previous incident involving Kersey and Stork where police were called, but said Stork was not arrested.
