Inmate escapes from Jefferson County facility

FAYETTE – Officials at the Mississippi Department of Corrections (MDOC) said an inmate remains at large after leaving the facility around 6 a.m. Sunday. Melvin Toney, 32, was last seen wearing MDOC state-issued green and white striped pants and a white MDOC shirt with “MDOC Convict” printed on the back.

Toney is a black male with brown eyes. He is 5’11, weighs 280 pounds and has a tattoo on his upper right arm that says “Alexis”.

MDOC spokesperson Tara Booth said Toney is serving a seven and a half year sentence for a possession of cocaine conviction from Marion County.
