Victim was 15-years-old

A Tupelo man has been arrested on charges he had inappropriate contact with a minor. Tupelo police arrested Lawrence Taylor, 24, on Sunday, WTVA said.

He is accused of having a sexual relationship with a 15-year-old.

Taylor is formally charged with statutory rape and is being held in the Lee County Adult Detention Center on an $80,000 bond.

Firefighters respond to Verona house fire

Lee County E911 officials said there was a house fire Tuesday afternoon on Martin Luther King Avenue in Verona.

Authorities said there was an elderly woman who lived inside the home at the time of the fire.

First responders were able to help get her out of the home and she was transported to North Mississippi Medical Center where an official said she was being treated.

Former Jackson police officer indicted

Tony Davis, 48, who previously served as a Jackson Police officer, was arraigned in federal court this month before U.S. Magistrate Judge F. Keith Ball. Davis’ arrest was pursuant to a federal indictment charging him with bribery in connection with a series of transactions of the city of Jackson, Mississippi Police Department.

Davis is scheduled for trial on June 10 before U.S. District Judge Carlton W. Reeves. If convicted, he faces a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.

This case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Man, child injured in dog attack

Amory police are holding two pitbulls following an attack on two people earlier this month.

Authorities said a 6-year-old and a 44-year-old man were the victims of the attack on May 1 on Lynnwood Drive.

Authorities apprehended one animal at the scene of the call and took the other into custody two days later. Both animals will be held pending a hearing for aggressive dogs in the city.
