JACKSON – The Mississippi Senate has approved the appointment of Melinda McGrath, P.E. to remain executive director of the Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT). The Senate approved McGrath’s appointment began April 1 and will end April 1, 2017, unless it is further extended.

Senate Transportation Commission Chairman Willie Simmons said, “I recommend her. She has done a good job.”

As executive director, McGrath oversees MDOT’s more than 3,000 employees and a transportation infrastructure that includes roadways and bridges, air, rail and ports. In 2012 the Mississippi Transportation Commission unanimously appointed McGrath as executive director and the three-member Commission reaffirmed her appointment again earlier this year. For a year prior to her initial appointment, McGrath held the dual role of MDOT interim executive director and chief engineer.

McGrath began her career with MDOT in 1985 and holds a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Mississippi State University. She was recently recognized as a Distinguished Fellow by MSU’s Bagley College of Engineering.
