Montgomery County Sheriff Jerry “Bubba” Nix said Miers had been shot multiple times.

Nix said the Miers’ mother made the grim discovery.

“Her mother came in the house and found her around 6:30 on the living room floor,” he said.

Nix said Miers lived in the home with her parents and her 5-year-old daughter.

“We know that she saw her father and mother before they went to work that morning, and her daughter went to school. And that’s the last we know of any contact that was made with her [prior to the murder].”

Nix said an autopsy may determine how long Miers had been deceased. Miers’ remains were  sent to the crime lab.

Nix said the Miers’ home showed no sign of a forced entry and nothing seemed out of place leading authorities to believe Miers may have known her assailant.

A small town of just 732 residents, Duck Hill is situated between Winona

and Grenada and hasn’t had a murder in four years.

The murder of William “Chug” McCuiston in 2009 took place in the county closer to Kilmichael.

Miers lived in a larger community surrounded by neighbors.

“It’s just shocking,” Duck Hill’s town clerk LaSonja Bloodsaw said. “People are very quiet. They just can’t believe it.”

Another resident of the close knit community, who preferred to remain anonymous,  said Miers attended Montgomery County High School in Kilmichael, but graduated from Grenada High School.

Miers was reportedly working for Popeye’s Chicken in Grenada at the time of her death. Her mother worked for Dollar General in Duck Hill.

Bloodsaw said Miers’ father, Ricky Miers, served one term as an alderman for the town of Duck Hill – whose motto is “A Place Called Home.”

“She always seemed quiet to me,” the resident quoted earlier said. “But she was a friendly young lady.”
