Winter weather storm issued

From Media Reports

JACKSON – The National Weather Service in Jackson has issued a Winter Storm Watch for much of Central Mississippi with expected snow flurries starting as early as Wednesday night and carrying over into Thursday.

The warning is effective until 9 a.m., Jan. 17.

Isolated locations could receive 2″ – 4″ of snow by Thursday morning.

Snow flurries could be mixed with rain causing a slushy drive to work and school Thursday morning.

The City of Jackson said Wednesday it’s prepared to spread sand and de-icer on city streets and bridges, WLBT reported.

In the case that weather downs power lines, call 1-800-9-OUTAGE. Jackson residents can call the city’s after hours public works number to report issues with streets, drainage and water lines at 601-960-1875.

In preparation for the potential of ice accumulating on bridges, the Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT) applied de-icing material on the Interstate 55 “Stack” bridges and Interstate 220 bridges Monday evening.

MDOT has advised all motorists to take extra precaution while traveling and to avoid these areas if possible and to seek alternate routes.
