Winter weather alert issued throughout the state

Ice storm warning in effect for the upper Delta until 6 p.m.

JACKSON – The National Weather Service (NWS) and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) have issued winter weather alerts for numerous counties across the state.

An ice storm warning is in effect for the upper Delta until 6 p.m. Monday, Jan. 14.

A freezing rain advisory has been issued for Elliot, Gore Springs, Grenada and Holcomb until 6 p.m., Jan. 14.

A winter weather advisory has been issued for Abbeville and Algoma until 12 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 15.

The NWS has predicted wintry weather for the Delta through the week with a freezing rain/snow mix possible for Wednesday and Thursday. This warning includes Moorhead, Indianola, Greenville, Sunflower, Greenwood and the Tie Plant area.

Carroll County is also included in the winter weather alert with a flash flood warning in effect for the Columbus and Starkville areas.

Temperatures which were in the early 70s Saturday and Sunday quickly fell by Sunday afternoon into the 50s after a cold front moved through, WCBI reported.

The greatest threat for freezing rain is likely for Monday which raises travel issues on local overpasses and bridges.
