A few snow flakes possible for Wednesday morning

COLUMBUS – There’s no need for a shovel just yet. But meteorologists are saying a few snow flurries are possible for North Mississippi early Wednesday morning.

Keith Gibson, of WCBI weather, said the best chance to see an accumulation of at least a few inches of snow will be between Memphis and Clarksdale.

“Blizzard conditions are expected in eastern Arkansas and northwestern Tennessee, if you can believe that,” Gibson said.

Temperatures were expected to cool into the mid-30s by Tuesday night with strong gusting winds developing between 15 and 25 mph.

Skies will gradually clear by late Wednesday afternoon, Gibson said, but blustery conditions would continue.

“Afternoon temperatures will struggle into the low 40s, but gusty NW winds will make it feel like it’s in the upper 20s or low 30s,” he said.

Wednesday night will fall back into the mid-20s, but bright sunshine and light winds were expected to return on Thursday with a high in the 40s.

The next chance of rain will be Friday afternoon through Saturday morning with no expectation of severe storms.

The emergency management agency director in Pearl River County, did say however, that a dozen homes were damaged and several people suffered minor injuries in a storm near McNeill, about 10 miles north of Picayune Tuesday.

Authorities said the injuries were mostly “cuts and scrapes,“but nothing life-threatening.

A report of a tornado touching down in Lauderdale County has been unconfirmed.
