COLUMBIA – (AP) Authorities are investigating the death of an inmate in the Marion County Jail.
The Hattiesburg American reports 25-year-old Samantha Gatlin of the Foxworth community was discovered in her cell on Dec. 11.
Deputies said medical assistance was rendered at the scene by the jail’s nursing staff until AAA Ambulance Service arrived on the scene.
Gatlin was taken to Marion General Hospital where she was pronounced dead. She was booked into the jail Monday, Dec. 10. The charge was not released.
An autopsy has been ordered to determine the cause of death.
The investigation is being conducted by the Mississippi Department of Investigation and sheriff’s department.
