International Paper Co. has been fined $38,250 for failing to label used oil tanks and exceeding air pollution limits from a lime kiln.

The company, based in Memphis, Tenn., agreed in September to pay the fine to the Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ).

An order published by the department says the company emitted too much hazardous metals dust from its lime kiln during a January 2011 test. The company exceeded its allowed emissions by 7.4 percent then. A December 2011 test showed emissions below permitted limits.

It also says the mill just north of Vicksburg failed to label three oil containers as required. The department found the violations in May and August 2012 inspections.
