Mississippi Blues Trail honored by Southeast Tourism Society

JACKSON – The Mississippi Blues Trail was recently presented an award by the Southeast Tourism Society at the society’s Annual Fall Conference in Virginia Beach, Va.

The Mississippi Blues Trail received a “Tourism for Tomorrow” award, which recognizes the accomplishments of a destination, company or organization in the realm of sustainable tourism with a project that promotes tourism development while safeguarding local culture and/or protecting the environment.

Alex Thomas, MDA Tourism’s Music Trails program manager, accepted the award on behalf of MDA, the Mississippi Blues Commission, MDA’s tourism partners throughout the state and blues musicians past and present.

The Southeast Tourism Society (STS) was established in 1983 by a small group of travel and tourism industry leaders from the southeast dedicated to the promotion and development of tourism throughout the region. Member states include West Virginia, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Kentucky, Tennessee, Georgia, Florida, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama.
