Obama was God’s choice for president

Tuesday night, Nov. 6, was historic. Barack Obama was re-elected to the office of the presidency.

With tears flowing, I watched on my television as the president of the United States of America entered the auditorium with his wife and two daughters to the roaring applause of more than 10,000 approving supporters to offer his acceptance speech after his victory over challenger Mitt Romney.

He won the election with the help of African Americans, Latinos, women, poor, rich, moderates and young Americans.

Without the Lord, Barack Obama would have been a one term president.

Our sovereign God who rules and superintends every aspect of our lives, worked out everything for his glory. Yes, like it or not, President Obama was God’s choice.

The evidence is indisputable.Consider the following:

The God of the Bible is not only the creator of the entire universe; he is also greater than the universe. He created something out of nothing – no one can do that. He causes himself to exist: “I am that I am.” (He told Moses when he identified himself.) He is sovereign ruler over everyone and everything. He is the king and he created everything for his glory.

In the thirteenth chapter of Romans, the scriptures make it clear that it is God who sets up the authorities (kings, presidents, governors, etc.). Proverbs 21:1 states that “The king’s heart is in the hand of the LORD; he directs it like a watercourse wherever he pleases.”

The Bible is not about us, it is all about God. We were created to bring the Lord glory. And because God is sovereign, he can do whatever he wants. He is the king of His kingdom.

Now, consider President Obama. In 2008, he was elected the first African American president in the history of this great nation; against racism, against white supremacy, against all odds.

During his first campaign, I saw the power of God unfold.

Before he was installed as president, conservatives, republicans, racists and others vowed publically that they would ensure that he was only a one term president.

They ran a weak, flip-flopping opponent against him in his 2012 re-election bid, Mitt Romney. With racism hiding behind the Tea Party, and the “good ole boy” system, Romney became a real threat to un-sitting this president.

They said joblessness and a weak economy were the president’s fault. They said no president (except Franklin D. Roosevelt) had been re-elected under similar conditions.

President Obama had no chance. But God!

Against all of these odds, God performed another miracle, not for us, but for His glory. And the Lord is allowing us to enjoy his miracle.

Now, some of you may ask why God chose Obama after he supported same sex marriage and abortions?

Well, the Bible is clear that God does not support same sex marriage or homosexuality or abortions. But those are subjects for future columns.

For now remember this: God is sovereign and can choose and use anyone. God has made President Obama His choice as part of His plan for His glory.

To God be the glory.
