JACKSON – The Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT) would like to update motorists on the ongoing roadwork on I-55 in Madison County.

On Tuesday, Oct. 30, at 10 p.m., contractors will close a section of Steed Road overnight for the demolition of the center span of the I-55 northbound bridge over Steed Road.

This section will reopen the following morning, Oct. 31, at 6 a.m.

Steed Road eastbound will be closed at the West Frontage Road where traffic will be required to travel south to Old Agency. Steed Road westbound will be closed at Sunnybrook Road. In addition, the East Frontage Road that intersects with Steed Road will be closed at Ridgeland Avenue.

This road work is required as part of the reconstruction of the northbound lanes of I-55 and to install a new bridge which will be longer and provide additional clearance for traffic on Steed Road. MDOT regrets any inconveniences this project has caused.

“Motorists should continue exercising extreme caution while traveling through the area,” said Central District Transportation Commissioner Dick Hall. “We look forward to completing this project safely while causing minimal traffic delays.”
