Authorities said alcohol may not be involved

WTVA is reporting that two people were killed following an accident on Highway 6 early Sunday morning, according to the Mississippi Highway Patrol.

Jeremy Rosamond, 27, of Ackerman, and Royce Thompson, Jr., 24, of Randolph died as a result of injuries sustained in the wreck, which took place about 12:45 a.m. Both were driving separate vehicles.

Trooper Ray Hall said the accident took place just outside the Tupelo city limits.

A passenger was taken to North Mississippi Medical Center with serious injuries.

Lee County Coroner Carolyn Green said there was no reason to suspect alcohol was a factor in the crash.

3 hurt in Jackson shooting

Police in Jackson are investigating a shooting incident that left two women and one man with gunshot wounds.

Their injuries were not believed to be life-threatening.

The shooting happened Friday night in northwest Jackson.

Investigators said a man and a woman were sitting in a parked car, and another woman was standing outside the vehicle when the shots were fired. The assailant escaped on foot.

Police have not identified a suspect.

Fire victim dies from smoke inhalation

A Saltillo woman was found dead, following a house fire in Lee County late Sunday night.

Coroner Carolyn Gillentine tells WTVA.com Susan Bradley, 47, was found inside the home early Monday morning, and the cause of death has been ruled smoke inhalation.

Firefighters were called to the scene of the fire around 11:30 Sunday night on County Road 395 in the Birmingham Ridge Community.

When they arrived at the scene, firefighter say half of the home was fully engulfed in flames.

Gillentine says Bradley owned the home.

Her body was sent to Jackson for an autopsy.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Corinth woman arrested in hammer attack

A Corinth woman faces charges after allegedly assaulting another woman with a hammer. The Daily Corinthian reports the Corinth Police Department have charged Jeanette Ieshia Coker, 39, on Oct. 5 with aggravated assault.

The victim, Jessica Lowery, 29, was flown to North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo for treatment.

Police Chief David Lancaster said officers found Lowery lying in a driveway surrounded by blood from an apparent head wound.

Lancaster said bystanders told investigators Lowery had been struck in the head with a hammer. Coker was taken into custody a short time later.

Lancaster did not know what triggered the dispute between the women.
