JACKSON – A Southaven woman is going to jail for three years for faking a “slip and fall” accident at a local business in order to collect insurance money.

Tracey Leigh Davidson, 36, of Southaven pleaded guilty to the insurance fraud charges on Sept. 5, after an investigation by the attorney general’s office showed that she received a $3,440 payment from Nationwide Insurance Company by fraudulent means.

Davidson claimed she fell at the Ramada Inn in Horn Lake.

Desoto County Circuit Court Judge Robert Chamberlin sentenced Davidson as a habitual offender (she has prior convictions for forgery and unauthorized use of a credit card) to serve three years in the custody of the Mississippi Department of Corrections where she will have to serve day for day.

“I would hope that others who may be contemplating similar scams would realize that they are not likely to get away with the crime, and such greed is not worth exchanging their freedom for,” said Attorney General Jim Hood.

In addition to her sentence, Davidson was ordered to pay the following: $1,000.00 in fines, $5,752.50 in restitution to Nationwide Insurance Company and the Attorney General’s Office for investigative/prosecution costs, $517.00 to SE Emergency Physicians, $390.00 to Mid South Imaging and Therapeutics and

$612.00 to the City of Horn Lake for ambulance service.

Davidson is to begin repaying these fines within 60 days of her release from custody.
