TUNICA – A 25-year-old woman remains behind bars after Tunica County officials said she allegedly beat her 21-month-old daughter to death. Latoya Ankston is being held without bond in the murder of Shaykerrea Ankston.

A spokesman from Tunica County, Larry Liddell, said paramedics were called to the Shady Lane Apartments late Sunday night, July 8, and found Shaykerrea unresponsive when they arrived.

The toddler was rushed to Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital where she remained in ICU for several days.

An investigation revealed that Ankston allegedly beat the toddler all over her body repeatedly with her hands and fists causing brain trauma.

Shaykerrea died on Wednesday, July 11.

Ankston was initially charged with felony child abuse, but that charge was upgraded to murder and her bond was set at $100,000.

Court officials said this week Ankston's next court apperance may be for trial.

Ankston’s live-in boyfriend, Alfred Siggers Jr., was also taken into custody, but he was released without being charged.
