Gautier police chief retiring for medical reasons

GAUTIER – Gautier will soon have a new police chief. Chief Eddie Williams is retiring for medical reasons, Mayor Tommy Fortenberry said Monday.

Capt. Dante Elbin will serve as the interim chief during the search for Williams’ replacement. He currently oversees the department’s traffic division.

Williams is a native of Pascagoula, and a life-long resident of Jackson County. He started his law enforcement career in 1975 and has served as Chief of the Gautier Police Department since 2006.
