Victim shot twice in the leg

Madison police have identified the suspected gunman in a Friday night shooting. Chief Gene Waldrop says an arrest warrant has been issued for Javier Jhamone Adams, 23, WLBT reported.

Waldrop says Adams lives on Gross Road in Madison County.

Once in custody, he’ll be charged with one count of aggravated assault. Investigators say Tommy Gipson, 50, of Brandon was shot twice in the leg.

The gunfire apparently erupted in a vacant lot on in the 1300 block of North Livingston Road about 10:15 p.m.

It’s unclear what may have sparked the gunfire. Gipson was treated and released from a local hospital.

The incident remains under investigation.

Natchez police jail officer arrested

A Natchez City Jail booking officer and a food delivery driver are facing felony charges for reportedly bringing a cellphone and batteries into the jail for inmates.

Interim Chief Danny White tells The Natchez Democrat the booking officer, 26-year-old Kenneth Newborne, was charged with introduction of contraband into the jail Friday.

Lt. Craig Godbold says officers got a report that someone had received a call from an inmate in the jail and also heard about the phone from other inmates. Godbold says Dantrell Minor, a delivery driver for the food service company that provides meals for inmates, brought batteries to the jail and gave the batteries to Newborne for the inmates.

Minor was charged with assisting introduction of contraband into the jail.

Plantersville police chief suspended

Plantersville Police Chief Maury Schuh has been placed on paid leave.

Mayor Gloria Holland says the decision was made last week in executive session after citizens came to the board of aldermen meeting with concerns involving the police department.

Holland says no details of the internal investigation of the police department will be released. She says aldermen will make a decision to reinstate Schuh or continue the investigation at their June 19 board meeting.

Until then, Assistant Police Chief Shirley Moon will be in charge of the department.

63-year-old man charged with sexual battery

An Itawamba County man is facing charges of abuse against a vulnerable person, announced Attorney General Jim Hood today.

Raymond Brown, age 63, of Golden, has been arrested by Investigator Joe Sanderson of the Attorney General’s Medicaid Fraud Control Unit with assistance from the Itawamba County Sheriff’s Department. Brown is charged with two felony counts of sexual battery of a vulnerable person.

Itawamba Justice Court Judge Barry Davis set bond at $10,000 and warned Brown that if he attempted to make any contact with the victim, who is mentally challenged and institutionalized, his bond would be revoked and he would sit in jail to await further court proceedings.

If convicted, Brown faces a maximum of 60 years in jail and $20,000 in fines.

2 men arrested in series of break-ins

Authorities have charged two Falkner, Miss., men with 19 counts of breaking into churches, businesses, homes and schools.

Investigators tell the Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal that more arrests are possible.

Investigators say they have recovered guns, tires and many other items in connection with the burglaries in Ripley and Tippah County. Officers say the investigation reaches into Benton County.

Ripley Police Chief Scott White says William David Nelson and Ryan Heath Miskelly are each charged with eight counts of burglary.

Tippah County Sheriff Karl Gaillard said the two men are each charged with 11 counts of burglary. All the burglaries happened May 9-20.

The two are being held on $100,000 bond each.

Investigators believe the two were looking for money and anything that could be sold for cash.
