PASCAGOULA – A Jackson County is dead after authorities said he drowned while crabbing and fishing in a bayou behind his home early Friday morning. Forty-six-year-old Roy Edward Bell, Jr. was pronounced dead at the scene after family members pulled him from the water.

Lt. James Massey of the Pascagoula Police Department said Bell went fishing about 5 a.m., Friday, May 11, behind his residence in the 2000 block of Canty Street.

Around 10 a.m., when family members went back to the bayou – which Massey said is a piece of the Yazoo Bayou – they found Bell face down in the water.

Massey said the police were called about 10:22 a.m., and emergency personnel failed to resuscitate Bell.

An autopsy was performed and Massey said Bell’s death has been ruled an accidental drowning.
