MOSS POINT – Jackson County officials have said that a seafood plant worker that died on the job in April, bled to death after he was caught in a conveyer.

Christopher Herbert, 24, was an employee at the Omega Protein Seafood Plant in Moss Point when he was involved in a “work-related” accident on April 9, Omega spokesman Ben Landry said.

Initially, plant officials said Herbert was working preparing for the upcoming fishing season and working with equipment at the plant when he was killed, but would not release the nature of his injuries or the cause of his death.

“He was working on a piece of equipment there onsite, and we are still trying to determine how he ended up in the position that he was found in,” Moss Point Police Chief Keith Davis told WLOX-TV.

Moss Point Police were joined in their investigation by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) as well as authorities from Omega.

Authorities have concluded that Herbert’s death was accidental and no criminal charges will be filed.
