PORT GIBSON – A homeless man convicted of stabbing his girlfriend to death last year has been sentenced to life in prison. Forty-one-year-old Dexter Watson was convicted of killing Patricia Dotson in March 2011.

Dotson’s body was found behind a church. She had been stabbed multiple times in the face and head.

Watson appeared in Clairborne County Circuit Court where he was sentenced by Circuit Judge Lamar Pickard. Watson may be eligible for parole when he turns 65, authorities said.

Watson and Dotson reportedly had an ongoing relationship and were living in a homeless shelter at the time of her murder.

Dotson’s partially nude body was found lying behind an air conditioning duct at the rear of First Baptist Church on Farmer Street. A man preparing the church for Sunday service came upon the body around 7:45 a.m.

Claiborne County Coroner J.W. Mallet identified the victim as 34-year-old Patricia Dotson.

MBI officials said investigators, assisted by the Mississippi State Crime Lab, were able to match Dotson’s blood with the blood that was found on Watson’s clothes.
