ROLLING FORK – A former South Delta High School teacher, convicted of having sex with a student at school in 2009, is back in jail on a probation violation.

Rodney Ashford, 35, was found guilty this week of violating his probation for his statutory rape conviction.

Circuit Judge Isadore Patrick sentenced Ashford to complete an alcohol and drug treatment program followed by probation for a period not to exceed his original 10-year sentence.

Ashford was originally convicted on Dec. 2, 2009 for having sex with a 14-year-old student.

Reportedly, in February 2009, Ashford and the girl had sex in the band hall on the school grounds of Delta High, and the girl’s parents notified the authorities.

Ashford subsequently turned himself in to police.

Ashford was arrested and his initial bond was set at $5,000. Ashford was fired from Delta High in August 2009, and convicted in December.
