Police: $500K in Nissan plant parts recovered

Investigators said $500,000 in automotive parts, possibly stolen from the Nissan plant in Canton, were recovered at an auto restoration business in Jackson. The owner, Eric Brown, has been taken into custody.

JACKSON – (AP) A raid on a car restoration business Wednesday uncovered about $500,000 in parts that police believe were stolen from the Nissan North American plant in Canton, authorities said.

Jackson Police Sgt. L.C. Russell told The Clarion-Ledger that authorities were acting on a tip when they raided Precious Automotive Auto Restoration in Jackson.

Russell said several crates of batteries and 10 boxes of catalytic converters, valued at $5,260 each, were among the items found.

Nissan spokesman Steve Parrett, in a statement, said they are cooperating with the police investigation.

“Nissan has been made aware that a significant amount of Nissan automotive parts were recovered today as part of a bust at an illegal chop shop operation in Jackson,” he said.

“Nissan is supporting the investigation efforts and will continue to ensure the highest levels of security throughout our operations.”

Russell said investigators don’t know how the parts were taken from the plant or how long the thefts have been going on.

The shop owner, Eric Brown, 48, was arrested on suspicion of receiving and possessing stolen goods. He also was charged with misdemeanor marijuana possession. Two other employees were arrested on outstanding warrants.
