Decomposed body found may be missing man

WLBT is reporting that a body found on a trail Sunday may be that of Johnny Chambers (pictured). Chambers was reported missing by his family more than a week ago.

A WLBT report

JACKSON – The disturbing discovery of a body this Easter Sunday may be that of a Jackson man who went missing a week ago.

Jackson Police were called to the 6000 block of McRaven Road shortly after 4 p.m. Sunday afternoon.

There on a trail not far from the roadway was a man’s body.

Investigators believe it may be 29-year-old Johnny Chambers.

Family members told WLBT this week that he was possibly kidnapped and shot last Sunday morning at his aunt’s home on Queen Eleanor Lane in west Jackson.

A neighbor reported hearing a gunshot.

Others said they saw men forcing Chambers into white older model Nissan with wings.

Hinds County Coroner Sharon Grisham Stewart says investigators believe the body may be Chambers, but it was so badly decomposed that DNA testing will be needed for positive identification.

She estimates he may have been in the grassy area for about a week.

“A citizen who was walking the grounds noticed his body and notified police,” said Jackson Police Officer Colendula Green. “The preliminary investigation reveals that an unidentified black male was found deceased. His body is badly decomposed.”

Chambers’ family members were on scene, but were not allowed to see the remains.

An autopsy will be performed to determine the cause of death.
