HATTIESBURG – (AP) At least one person was killed and several others injured after a shooting at a Hattiesburg restaurant on U.S. Highway 49 Monday.

Hattiesburg police spokesman Lt. Eric Proulx said Scott Tyner, 44, of Hattiesburg, walked into Cucos restaurant and opened fire sometime after 3 p.m.

“There was no confrontation, there was no exchange of words,” Proulx said.

Tyner was only able to run a short distance before police arrived and arrested him on five counts of aggravated assault, Proulx told The Hattiesburg American.

Tyner is being held at the Forrest County Jail. No bond had been set.

Proulx said investigators have no obvious motive to the crime at this time, but it remains under investigation.

“We don’t know why he did it,” he said.

Dispatchers received a call about the shooting at 3:31 p.m. The restaurant is located across from Forrest General Hospital. There were no immediate reports on the injured people’s conditions or their identities. But among the injured was a waitress and a bar patron.
