SAUCIER – (AP) Ian Woosnam, the 1991 Masters champion, received one of four sponsor's exemptions to play in this week's Mississippi Gulf Resort Classic at Fallen Oak in Saucier.

The Champions Tour event runs from March 23-25. The defending champion is Tom Lehman, who will play in the event.

The others getting exemptions for the Champions Tour event are Bobby Clampett, Keith Fergus and Anders Forsbrand.

The final field will be announced Friday for the 54-hole event that will feature 29 of the top 30 players on the tour's money list last year.

Others who have committed to play include Fred Couples, Corey Pavin, Tom Kite, Mark O'Meara, Mark Calcavecchia and Nick Price.

“The quality of our exemptions is reflective of the quality of our field,'' tournament director Steve Nieman said. “There are some guys who didn't get exemptions who are deserving of exemptions.''

Woosnam played in two Champions Tour events last year. He has two PGA Tour wins and three international victories in his career as well as 43 other victories.
