JACKSON – Authorities in Jackson are still looking for another suspect in the case of a woman shot dead after being caught in the crossfire of an altercation. Thirty-two-year-old Dedric Dodd turned himself in to police on Wednesday, Feb. 22, after allegedly shooting 44-year-old Areba May Lee the day before.

Jackson Police Officer Colendula Green said Lee was caught in an altercation between Dodd and another person just before 3:30 p.m., Feb. 21, in front of a Laundromat on Pleasant Avenue.

Green said when officers responded to the scene, they found Lee with a gunshot wound to the abdomen. She was transported to UMC where she was pronounced dead.

“It’s a sad situation,” Green said. “Lee was an innocent bystander [who] got caught in the crossfire.”

A warrant was issued for Dodd’s arrest and he was charged with murder on Feb. 21. Green said he is being held without bond and another arrest is pending.
