Cop found not guilty in sex crimes

GRENADA – A former Grenada police officer was found not guilty in court of two charges of sexual battery. A Tallahatchie County jury found Donnie Tenner innocent of the charges that were made against him in 2009.

Tenner was arrested while on duty, and in front of his fellow officers, on Nov. 18, 2009, on two separate indictments of sexual battery on a child under the age of 18. The allegations stemmed from an incident that occurred in Charleston in 1998.

The case was investigated by the attorney general’s office and investigators said Tenner used his position as a Charleston police officer and substitute teacher to coerce a teenage girl into a sexual relationship.

Tenner’s attorney, Kevin Horan, told the court that Tenner was around 30 years old at the time of the incident and that the relationship was consensual.

WABG reported that Tenner resigned from his post at the Grenada Police Department after being on unpaid administrative leave for several months.

Tenner had been an officer in Grenada for about four years.
