Restaurants complete final steps to sell alcohol

Nine Flowood restaurants wanting to add liquor to their menus will go before city aldermen to ask for conditional-use permits.

Monday’s public hearing is the second-to-last step in a two-year

battle to allow Flowood eateries to serve alcohol.

After businesses get the nod from the city, Mayor Gary Rhoads said, they will need a liquor license from the Mississippi Tax Commission, the agency that regulates alcohol sales.Liquor can be sold by the glass 11 a.m. to midnight Monday through Saturday and noon to midnight Sunday.Once a restaurant receives a state liquor license, Alderman Kirk McDaniel said, the city has the ability to verify whether the restaurants are abiding by the liquor-to-food guidelines.Restaurants must generate 60 percent of their revenue from food sales.
