HATTIESBURG, Miss. (AP) – Funeral services are set Wednesday for the son of slain civil rights leader Vernon Dahmer Sr., who died defending his family from the Klan in 1966.
Alvin H. Dahmer, 67, died Friday of natural causes at his home outside Hattiesburg. Dahmer was a local homebuilder and military veteran. He was the sixth of Dahmer’s eight children.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Shady Grove Baptist Church in Forrest County. Viewing will begin at 9 a.m.
Dahmer was murdered after Klansmen burned his home and store. More than 30 years later, Ku Klux Klan member Sam Bowers was convicted of conspiracy to commit Vernon Dahmer’s murder.
